AAYHF acknowledges Earth Day 2024 – Here’s some everyday ideas to show love to our planet:

Earth Day is a fantastic opportunity to show our beautiful planet some love! There are ways to celebrate that are both big and small, depending on your time and interests. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Get Active and Give Back:

Park Cleanup: Organize or join a local park or neighborhood cleanup. Grab some friends and family, put on your gloves, and make a positive impact.

Plant a Tree: Planting a tree is a great way to give back to the environment and beautify your community. Check with local organizations to see if they have any tree-planting events planned.

Community Garden Volunteer: Lend a hand at a community garden. It’s a fun way to get some exercise, learn about gardening, and contribute to fresh, local food production.

Be Mindful at Home:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: This classic trio is a great way to minimize your environmental impact. Look for ways to reduce waste, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle diligently.

Embrace Energy Efficiency: Turn off lights and electronics when not in use, switch to energy-efficient light bulbs, and consider adjusting your thermostat for better energy savings.

Start a Compost Bin: Composting food scraps and yard waste reduces landfill waste and creates nutrient-rich soil for your garden.

Learn and Be Inspired:

Go on a Nature Walk: Immerse yourself in nature! Take a hike, explore a local park, or simply sit outside and appreciate the beauty of the environment.

Watch a Documentary: There are many great documentaries that explore environmental issues and solutions.

Earth Day Events: Check online or with your local environmental organizations to see if there are any Earth Day events happening in your area.

The African American Youth Harvest Foundation (AAYHF) has partnered with the Leaders of AKA Sorority by facilitating the monthly Youth Leadership Institute. In the last session they discussed the homeless/unhoused crisis and also prepared hygiene kits for Mother’s Day in support of the organization Mission Accomplished, which is a great way to support mothers in need in the community.

Michael Lofton introduces and talks more about the upcoming launch of the Equine Assisted Therapy Program.

HEALING THROUGH HORSES:

AAYHF and The Harvest Trauma Recovery Center is hopeful to launch Equine-Assisted Therapy this summer.

E.A.T. offers a unique and powerful approach to healing, fostering emotional, mental, and physical well-being for individuals who have experienced trauma.

How does E.A.T. work?

E.A.T. involves working with horses in a safe and controlled environment, under the guidance of a qualified mental health professional and a certified equine specialist. The therapeutic focus is not on riding the horses, but rather on building a connection and trust with these gentle and intuitive animals.
